Sonar’s Journal: Open Letter To The Youths & Social Media Users

Sonar 2Happy new month, a month of Love and new things as we all celebrate the greatest love ever this Easter.

In addition to the new month we also have a new president wow! Nigeria is evolving. The focal point and game changer was the active role played by the youths both on social media and live debates in schools, work places, religious houses, homes, on the streets and so on.

Now that congratulatory messages have been exchanged between the players even as supporters also send theirs left, right and all over to both candidates, its also time for we the youths to drop all differences, congratulate ourselves regardless if your candidate won or not Nigeria is one and we have won together.

Let’s emulate the outstanding conduct of Mr. President Dr.  Ebele Goodluck Jonathan to the President Elect, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) Gen. You can’t mourn more than the bereaved.

Let us bury all sentiments and negative utterances of distrust at this time because we don’t need such time wasting activities at all, not now, not ever there is work to be done.

Let us also not sit back and watch as youths for this is certainly not Telemondo nor UEFA League for that matter, it is our future live and direct, the stories we will tell or children when they start asking questions. You don’t want to stutter when that time comes do you?

Social media so far has been rewarding though some immature elements almost caused problems by posting Biased comments, an unscrupulous fellow was blocked by Twitter for making a ridiculous Tribal statement. Kudos to the Twitter owners for that prompt action I am impressed, more of that.

Social media is a very effective tool, a powerful one for that matter but just like fire and water it can be used for good or for evil. Some website owners and Bloggers also caused problems during and after the elections by ignorantly and sometimes selfishly posting inappropriate materials online to encourage confusion and sometimes promoting hatred all because they wanted traffic to their website.

It was a battle between the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Radio Nigeria and other government agencies who disclaimed fake results being posted by some bloggers and website owners long before the real results came out. While the disclaimer was still ongoing, many bloggers especially the selfish ones were still posting fake results placing their own interest above National interest.

The thing is if you as a blogger or website owner start a riot with fake results, you the selfish blogger will have no place to sell gossip and do business anymore so for God sake, think.

Many bloggers… placed their own interest above National interest [during the Presidential election].

The election also revealed certain things about Nigerians, many of us are willing to be part of development, the youths are interested in politics, some people still have this tribal discrimination thing in them, the question is; are you going to pass that poison down to your children?

The God we all claim to serve is not tribal nor is he bias, he is Love.

Kudos to those who took time to challenge those youths and agbayas online that tweeted and posted discrepancies. You guys helped the nation avert disaster keep it up.

We have been through a lot as youths but we are young, we are smart, we are strong and our country needs us. Shun all negative vibes and continue to preach Unity for together we will go far, we will succeed.

Happy Easter!
